Reforestation You will help to replant parts of this unique ecosystem that have been lost to logging, petroleum exploitation, and cattle farming. Learn the process of growing trees from seeds to saplings. Learn to collect seeds, prepare compost, prepare the reforestation site, and plant trees to restore the biodiversity of the area. Language and Culture Exchange While all trips will provide you with an incredible learning experience, this trip has a focus that allows you to share your English skills, practice your Spanish skills, and learn some Kichwa words as well. Experience traditional Amazonian food and dance, as environmental and cultural knowledge is shared. You will work with students in a daily after school program which will focus on colors numbers, and basic English vocabulary through games, songs, cooking, and more! Local Food Because of the climate of Ecuador, a wide variety of food can grow here. However, many families lack the proper nutrition due to the lack of resources. Projects can include the construction of gardens, greenhouses, hen houses, fish ponds, the planting of food, and the sharing of knowledge to eliminate community health issues related to nutrition. Biodiversity Monitoring Ecuador is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Assist in the exploring and cataloging of the variety of plant and animal species found on the reserve. Summer Camp (Only Available in July and August) Work with school children in their community to share your language or science knowledge. You will be surprised at the children's excitement to learn, and they have a few things to teach you as well! Renewable Energy Petroleum is the most exported product in Ecuador. It makes up 51% of the countries income. Because it is readily available, and is low cost, many people use it as their main source of energy. In this project, you will help to develop and install alternative power sources for families off the grid. Waste Management Lack of an organized government-based trash pick up has made waste management, and littering a major problem in Ecuador. In this project you will assist in designing a trash separation system. This project can include recyclable art activities, compost projects, and environmental education activities. Health and Wellness Your team will design and implement health and wellness activities specific to your skills, experience, and interests. These may include swimming lessons, first aid classes, an afterschool camp where children learn parts of the body in english, dental checkups or physicals. |
